Hi regional GIS users,
Register now for our spring meeting at UCSB. There is no charge (other than UCSB parking.)
spatial@ucsb (UCSB’s collaborative GIS research center led by Dr. Michael Goodchild) is kindly hosting a joint meeting with CIRGIS and the Santa Barbara/Ventura GIS Users Group as they did last year. Last year’s event was tied into the opening of the new spatial@ucsb center and was a great success in my opinion (hard to beat hearing Jack Dangermond of ESRI up close and also being fed good food.)
This year’s event will be a little more low key, but still serves as a wonderful opportunity for us to all be together. It is becoming established as our spring Santa Barbara counterpoint to our annual GISDay in the fall in Ventura .
Here is the schedule to date:
11 a.m. Tour of the Allosphere, Elings Hall (near east entrance)
12 Lunch, Corwin Pavilion/Lagoon Plaza
1 p.m. SB/Ven.GIS users group/CIRGIS meeting, Corwin Pavilion
1:00 Introductions and a short keynote by Michael Byrne who has just appointed by the governor as the first Geographic Information Officer for the State of California .
1:30 CIRGIS General Meeting (all are invited to attend)
2:30 Open discussion by all parties: Tentative topic – Developing stronger Internship opportunities for students and job seekers. The goal will be to create an action plan for encouraging and supporting more internships and a mechanism to match interns with opportunities.
3 p.m. Poster session (see invitations to present posters below … these include additional information, including our UCSB contacts)
I hope you will attend. Spatial@ucsb is providing lunch to registrants.
To register, send me (Steve Palladino, spalladino@vcccd.edu) an email with your name and contact information. Please let us know if you will arrive before lunch to tour the Allosphere (http://www.allosphere.ucsb.edu/), will participate in lunch (vegetarian?), or will just arrive later for our meetings and poster session. You can just fill in the following and cut it into your message to me:
Name:
Organization:
Email:
Address:
Phone:
Will attend Allosphere tour: Y or N
Will attend free lunch: Y or N (also indicate if vegetarian)
Will bring poster: Y or N (follow directions on cards a bottom for this.)
Please try to register this coming week by May 8, but we can take additional registrations until May 20 for lunches and the tour. You are welcome to come after lunch without a reservation, but we would prefer to know who is coming for any portion.
I look forward to hearing from many of you soon. Please pass this along to your colleagues as many have not yet signed up for our the new Users Group email news delivery on GIS activities and classes in the area (See blue button on the web page: academic.venturacollege.edu/spalladino/geosci/GIS.html)
